Legislature Governing MSME
The Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development (MSMED) Act was notified in 2006. Prior to implementation of MSMED Act, 2006, the MSME sector was defined as Small Scale Industries (SSI) sector and its constituent tiny and auxiliary units only. The coverage of the MSME sector has broadened significantly under the MSMED Act, 2006, to include both manufacturing and services sectors.
Prior to October 2016, to get you registered as MSME’s one needs to carry out a lot of paperwork and fill Employment Memorandum I and II. However, Kamath Committee on Financial Structure of MSME sector recommended a single window clearance system. This system is called Udyog Aadhar which is an online Aadhar based registration.
